Dogs domesticated in Middle East, not Asia
The findings, published in the online edition of the scientific journal Nature, support an archeological record that closely links the domestication of dogs in the Middle East with the rise of human civilization there, scientists said.
"It's significant because this is where civilization developed, and dogs were part of that," said Robert Wayne, professor of evolutionary biology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a senior author of the study.
The region, often referred to as the Fertile Crescent, includes much of modern-day Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan --
"the same area where domestic cats and many of our livestock originated, and where agriculture first developed," he said. click here for more

Somalia's jihad-related chaos and violence
"Efforts to restore peace and security to Somalia are critically undermined by a corrosive war economy that corrupts and enfeebles State institutions... Commanders and troops alike sell their arms and ammunition - sometimes even to their enemies. Revenues from Mogadishu port and airport are siphoned off. Some government ministers and members of parliament abuse their official privileges to engage in large-scale visa fraud, smuggling illegal migrants to Europe and other destinations, in exchange for hefty payments," states the UN report. click here

Somalia: US backs puppet government’s planned military offensive By Brian Smith
The US government is directly responsible for the chaos and insecurity that pervade Somalia, after decades of US support for warlords and illegitimate governments. Somalia and Yemen—a country on the Arabian Peninsula directly across the Gulf of Aden from Somalia—are seen by the US as key areas in its efforts to control the strategic Horn of Africa as it confronts its rivals, such as China, and makes preparations for a possible war with Iran. U.N. reports diversion of Somalia aid
United Nations Much of the food aid intended for Somalia's poor is diverted to corrupt contractors, radical Islamic militants and local U.N. workers, according to a Security Council report. The findings, not yet made public, were first reported Tuesday by the New York Times. A United Nations diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity because the report has not been released, confirmed that "a significant diversion" of food delivered by the U.N. food program ends up in the hands of cartels, which then sell it illegally. The report blames the problem on improper food distribution, the diplomat said. The Times said the report recommends that U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon open an independent investigation into the World Food Program's Somalia operations. Click here for More

Somalia: The Hopeless President - Mr. Sharif: 15 Mar 15, 2010 - 8:08:56 AM If shelling civilians and consorting with the dictator Meles Zenawi is bad enough, Mr. Sharif’s biggest crime to date is the selling of our continental sea-shelf to President Mwai Kibaki, despite the fact that members of parliament voted unanimously against this treacherous act. He, in turn, blamed the parliament for intervening in the government’s fundraising strategies!
In short, the above leadership assessment clearly proves that Mr Sharif lacks the experience, skills and patriotism needed for the reconciliation and rebuilding of the Somali nation. Those who know Somali history well will acknowledge that Somali people will never accept any imposed government, engineered from outside, as well as foreign interventions. Click here for more

Israel doesn't need to grovel for U.S. forgiveness By Moshe Arens Tags: Jerusalem, Israel new So sorry! Very sorry! Very, very sorry! We apologize! This will never happen again! The prime minister, cabinet members and senior bureaucrats repeated this over and over again last week in an attempt to set right what seemed to them to have been a major blunder, one they thought had spoiled what should have been a dramatic goodwill visit by the vice president of the United States, Joe Biden. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might have been humming "I'm just a soul whose intentions are good, Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood," while he sat waiting for the arrival of Biden, who vented his anger over what he considered an insult by being deliberately late for dinner. For Cooler Chips, Follow the Grooves By HENRY FOUNTAIN Published: March 15, 2010 For electronics engineers who want to make faster chips, heat is a big hurdle. More calculations mean more electrons moving through semiconductor material, which generates more heat. Enlarge This Image J. Adam Fenster/University of Rochester Researchers at the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester have tested a strategy for moving water and coolants on silicon chips. Too much heat makes a chip unstable. So manufacturers use heat sinks or coolers and fans to keep chips at safe operating temperatures. But what if water or other liquid could be circulated on the silicon itself? That might make for better cooling, and faster chips. click here
